BALDWIN IV · REX HIEROSOLIMITANVS
Baldwin IV, king of Jerusalem, was one of the most unique figures of the Holy Land of the twelfth century. Crowned at a very young age, his reign was marked by war, faith and the fragility of a body that had suffered from illness since adolescence.
In this play I wanted to represent the monarch beyond his physical condition: the gaze of a young king, aware of his time and the weight of the crown he wears.
The painting seeks to recover the atmosphere of that medieval world through a contemporary interpretation, where light, matter and expression have as much weight as the historical figure itself.
BALDVINVS IV · REX IEROSOLIMITANVS is part of my pictorial research around the history of Jerusalem, the Templars and medieval spirituality.
